HOW MANY CHILDREN DO YOU TAKE PER DAY?

IS THERE A WAITING LIST?
Due to the high demand for Little Sparrows, we do have waiting lists for most of our age groups. If you have visited and would like to put your child’s name on our waiting list, you will need to complete and return the registration form to us and pay a £50 non refundable registration fee.

ARE YOU STILL HAVING MIXED AGE MONTESSORI PLAY?
The short answer is yes.

Where most nurseries closed during the pandemic, we stayed open and supported the key workers in our community. With this it brought a different and exciting way of working. We built an outside classroom so the pre-schoolers could continue to safely learn. As a result it put a divide (a positive divide) in our group of children.
We now primarily work in two separate age groups - the babies & toddlers and the preschoolers. The pre-schoolers are in the outside classroom for most of day, in all weathers! Yes, we have adopted the Scandinavian saying 'there's not such thing as bad weather, just unsuitable clothing'

At times of the day we do still bring the children together, as we believe there are huge benefits that children gain from playing, learning and caring together. We provide the best of both!

DO CHILDREN HAVE TO KEEP MOVING ROOMS?
Our children are separated into only two groups rather than continuously moving into different rooms which can impact on emotional well-bring, relationships and friendships.

MY CHILD IS OVER 3 AND IS SPENDING MORE TIME OUTDOORS, WHAT DO YOU DO IF IT RAINS OR IS REALLY COLD?
We have a recommended kit list to help you know what clothing is appropriate to keep your child warm and dry outside. Our outside classroom has a roof and roller blinds which can protect children from the wind and rain.

We always put the children the first so if the weather is not safe or appropriate, we still have our indoor over 3's Preschool classroom we can use at any time!

DO YOU USE PAPER OR AN ONLINE PLATFORM FOR LEARNING JOURNALS?
We currently use both! We are in a transitional period at the moment where we have introduced the Famly app into our setting for the pre school class. We may extend it to all age groups in the future, so watch this space!
We know how much our families love their children's learning journals, so at present, each child will continue receiving a physical learning journal, which you can keep forever.

We do not upload any posts in front of the children. Our practitioners spend their time teaching, enjoying and engaging with the children. In our setting we have always prioritised spending time with the children, this means posts are sporadic, however, the posts you do receive are meaningful and of good quality. Our team are always available for daily feedback, so you will always be kept in the loop with how your child has been and what they have been learning about each day.

HOW DO YOU MONITOR CHILDREN'S LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT?
We follow the Early Years Outcomes tool as a tool to guide through your child's developmental milestones. We collect information as we interact and play with your child, we also seek out information from you. We use our expert knowledge to write up an in depth, meaningful learning plans. Our learning plans show how you can support at home too through lots of tips and advice as well as how we are supporting at nursery too.
