FAQS

General Questions & Answers

CAN I VISIT THE NURSERY?

Yes absolutely - please telephone the Nursery on 01992 623222 and book your visit with us!

HOW MANY CHILDREN DO YOU TAKE PER DAY?

We take up to 24 children a day of mix ages from 6 months – 5 years.

IS THERE A WAITING LIST?

Due to the high demand for Little Sparrows, we do have waiting lists for most of our age groups. If you have visited and would like to put your child’s name on our waiting list, you will need to complete and return the registration form to us and pay a £50 non refundable registration fee.

ARE YOU STILL HAVING MIXED AGE MONTESSORI PLAY?

The pandemic brought a different an exciting way of working, some of these new practices we have decided to keep!

We now primarily work in two separate age groups - the babies & toddlers and the preschoolers. At times of the day we bring the children together as we believe in the huge benefits children gain from playing and learning together. We provide the best of both!

MY CHILD IS OVER 3 AND IS SPENDING MORE TIME OUTDOORS, WHAT DO YOU DO IF IT RAINS OR IS REALLY COLD?

We have a recommended kit list to help parents know what clothing is appropriate to keep your child warm and dry outside. Our outside classroom has a roof and roller blinds which can protect children from the wind and rain.

We always put the children the first so if the weather is too cold or too windy, we still have our indoor over 3's Preschool classroom we can use at any time!

DO YOU USE ONLINE APPS AS A PLATFORM FOR LEARNING JOURNALS?

Yes, we are currently introducing the Famly app into our setting for the pre school class. We may extend it to all age groups in the future, so watch this space!  Each child receives a physical learning journal too, which they can share with their family and keep forever.

HOW DO YOU MONITOR CHILDREN'S LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT?

We follow the EYFS as a tool to guide through your child's developmental milestones. We collect information from our observations and seek out information from you, their parents. We then write up an in depth learning plan to show how we are supporting your child’s learning in the Nursery and we also give you tips and advice in how you can support at home too. It's important make these plans together so your child can get the best out of their learning experience.

ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMICALS AND TOXINS

  • We limit the amount of harmful chemicals used in our setting.

  • We use eco friendly washing up liquid to wash and clean equipment with.

  • A steamer cleaner to sanitise and wash the playroom floors, so crawling babies aren't breathing in toxins as they explore.

  • Air purifiers in the playrooms clean the indoor air and we always have windows open so fresh air comes.

  • The walls have been painted with Little Greene's Intelligent finish which are certified 'Child-Safe' under EN 71-3:2019 (also known as the Toy Paint Regulations). This means they are completely safe to use as they don't contain any dangerous ingredients.

ARE ALL STAFF CHECKED AND HOLD ENHANCED DISCLOSURES?

Yes - we are Ofsted registered and all staff are rigorously checked and hold Enhanced Disclosures.
